Embracing Equity requires courage, as it often means going against the grain of acceptable norms.
One example of how courage has contributed to a more equitable world is the story of Sona Jobarteh.
Sona Jobarteh comes from a family of Kora players in The Gambia. Kora skills are usually passed from father to son but someone in Sona’s family was brave enough to recognise and encourage her curiosity in the instrument from the tender age of 3 years old. She went on to study a variety of musical instruments and composition in the UK and is now celebrated as the world’s first virtuoso female kora player.
